Pick
A Card - Any Card
The Pick A Card series of patent pending casino games were inspired by the
scene in Vegas Vacation in which Clark and Cousin Eddie go to that odd casino where the games are
'a little different'.
In addition to "Casino War" and "Rock, Paper, Scissor", there was a game
called Pick A Number, seen here, which used no device to determine the winner. Despite being absurd
to the max and ripe for dealer cheating, it was our inspiration for a fair version, with a house
edge that is reasonable, but hard to calculate on the fly. It's fun and easy to play, and can
seem to provide a player advantage.
Game
Description
The game is played with a standard 52 card deck, or 52 cards plus a fully wild Joker.
Players make a wager that a selected card rank or suit appears among the three cards
to be revealed. Payouts are increased if the chosen rank or suit appears more than once. Players
may wager on as many ranks or suits as desired.
The basic game opions can include betting on the rank or suit, or both. When the joker is
included, and particularly when betting on ranks is offered, a seperate bet on the rank of joker
can be available.
A Bonus side bet allows players to wager that the three cards will be a pair, flush,
straight, three of a kind or straight flush. This is similar to the Pair Plus side bet for Three
Card Poker, without a jackput for a mini-royal.
A Jackpot side bet is also available and can be progressive if desired. Triggered when
a straight flush or three of a kind appears, a fourth card is shown. The full jackpot pays when that
card results in a four card straight flush, or four of a kind. A partial jackpot payout occurs when
the fourth card added to a straight flush is still a straight or flush, or when added to a three of
a kind is the fourth suit (rainbow). If the fourth card doesn't improve the hand, the payout is only
slightly less than the same hand on the Bonus side bet, while a simple straight or flush pays the
same as the Bonus side bet.
Therefore, when played with a joker, and offering every betting option, the player will have
20 betting poitions: 13 ranks, 1 joker rank, 4 suits, 2 side bets. Because of the many betting spots,
these games would be better suited to a Big 6 size table with community betting positions for live play,
or for electronic/online play. Despite this, and to make it easier to visualize, sample layouts designed
with individual betting positions on a BJ size table are included below - along with Big 6 style sample
table layouts.
All players play the same three cards. The deck gets shuffled after each round.
Unique Game
Feature
Similar to craps where one player throws the dice to determine the outcome, a player is
provided a stylus to select the cards used. Alternatively, the dealer can offer a player a cut
card, cut the deck, and use the top cards to determine the winners. If the cards are a pair or
better, the same player can again select the cards on the next turn.
